13 kW High Efficiency HVAC Motor Drive Inverter
This reference design demonstrates the use of silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs to optimize the performance of a motor drive for auxiliary motors in electric vehicles, as well as Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and other similar applications. Utilizing SiC MOSFETs for these applications can increase system efficiency and increase power density compared to silicon solutions. SiC’s higher thermal conductivity and lower losses at higher switching frequencies enables smaller system size and cooling requirements, faster compressors and lower noise vibration harshness.
The Design Accomplishes:
- Peak efficiencies of 99%, full load efficiency of 98.5%

- Closed-loop sensorless field oriented control
