Wolfspeed, the global leader in Silicon Carbide technology, is working with Shenzhen Sinexcel Electric Co., a global leading supplier of energy internet core power equipment and solutions, to supply Wolfspeed WolfPACK™ silicon carbide power modules for next generation Active Power Filter (APF) and Static Var Generator (SVG) of Power Quality Solutions.

Sinexcel is committed to optimize power quality and smart power management system for a range of power supply scenarios and industry manufacturing environments and improve efficiency of electrical power energy. Sinexcel Power Quality Solutions are designed for applications across public infrastructure, transportation, data center, semiconductor, petrochemical, and manufacturing industries with installed capacity over dozens of millions of Amps. Active Power Filter (APF) and Static Var Generator (SVG) are core products of Sinexcel Power Quality Solutions that enable perfect power quality.

“To meet the growing need for a power quality solution that has higher efficiency, higher power density, smaller size and lighter weight, we partnered with Wolfspeed to utilize its industry leading Wolfspeed WolfPACK™ silicon carbide power modules into our most recently launched P5 series Active Power Filter (APF) and Static Var Generator (SVG). This is a groundbreaking application of high-power silicon carbide in Active Power Filter (APF) and Static Var Generator (SVG) and will dramatically improve performance and market competitiveness of our power quality solution.” said Longteng Zhao General Manager of Power Quality Division Sinexcel.

Due to the features of lower RDS(on) and faster switching frequency offered by Wolfspeed WolfPACK™ silicon carbide power modules, it will effectively reduce losses of switching and conduction, and eventually improve the peak efficiency of Sinexcel’s P5 series Active Power Filter (APF) and Static Var Generator (SVG) to 99%. This is a remarkable breakthrough in contrast with previous silicon IGBT based products with just 97% peak efficiency. This will also dramatically reduce energy consumption based on equivalent volume. By adoption of Wolfspeed WolfPACK™ silicon carbide power modules, Sinexcel’s P5 series Active Power Filter (APF) and Static Var Generator (SVG) have achieved greater power density with over 50% reduction in size and over 40% reduction in weight, which will significantly improve capacity in unit cabinet and save occupied space for customers. The advantage of higher thermal conductivity enabled by Wolfspeed’s WolfPACK™ silicon carbide power modules also leads to simpler cooling systems and smaller overall systems, further saving space. All these benefits enable energy saving and maximize power values for customers.

“Across the globe, Wolfspeed’s silicon carbide devices are enabling customers to achieve increasing system efficiency and performance and advancing technological solutions,” said Robin Zhang, VP of China Sales and Marketing at Wolfspeed. Our collaborations with Sinexcel mark a breakthrough application of silicon carbide in the power quality sector and dramatically improve product competitiveness.
