1500V DC bus solar applications are rapidly growing due to the higher efficiency and higher power levels required in modern installations. This reference design demonstrates the use of Wolfspeed’s 1200V Gen 4 silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs to optimize the performance of an Active-Front End of Power Conversion Systems (PCS), Solar Inverters and other similar applications. A single phase of a 100kW AC-DC/DC-AC converter is demonstrated in the this design as a 33kW Single phase leg. Utilizing Wolfspeed’s Gen 4 technology for these applications can improves system efficiency, increases power density and lowers the weight of the inverter compared to silicon solutions. Paralleling multiple discrete SiC devices is also demonstrated in this design which can be scaled up to 67kW for a 200kW Inverter.
